St. Augustine FL. - Oldest City in the USA

Geni and I paid a visit to St. Augustine FL. last week and boy were we impressed with the history of this City! The whole city is a National Historic Landmark, with many buildings dating to the early 1700's! It also has a really amazing Spanish fort, Spanish military base established in 1565 by Don Pedro Menéndez de Aviles.(It was closed for gov shut down). The Spanish Mission Church
built in 1797 was incredible in size and detail! The cobble stone streets are just as they were when Florida was a Spanish colony. The Part of Ponce de León's 1513 claim to La Florida.

FORT CLINCH STATE PARK - 1860's Civil War Fort in Flordia

Our Good Friends Clark and Elaine paid us a visit at Crooked River State Park last week and were we glad to see them! We worked with them in Yellowstone National Park in 2017 and have kept in touch every since. That is really the essence of this wandering lifestyle we live, we travel and see incredible sites but the real fulfillment is all the wonderful people we meet along the way! We have met so many awesome people and they all have a story to tell and we listen and learn from them.

Clark and Elaine stopped by for two days and we always enjoy their company. We drove down to Fort Clinch State Park on Amelia Island along the Atlantic Coast. This site was first fortified in 1736 by the Spanish, when they held colonies in Florida. This large well restored brick fortress was built in 1847 and was occupied by both the Confederate and Union soldiers. We were here twice and the first time it was totally staffed with Confederate soldiers, every first Saturday of the Month they fully dress and act as they were in the 1860's and its called " living History Weekend".
